Flyer designIf you’re a small business looking to attract customers from your local area, designing flyers can be a great option. They’re a versatile product to include in your marketing mix and complement other marketing efforts (online and offline). But if you really want to make sure your flyer stands out from the crowd you need to get the design just right. Take care to avoid these mistakes when creating flyer designs for your business.

4 Mistakes to Avoid when Designing Flyers

1.  Too Much Clutter

It’s important that your flyer design has visual appeal when trying to grab the attention of your target audience. If you want people to really take notice of what you’re trying to say make sure you avoid too much clutter – whether it’s too much information or too many images.

2.  Unclear Messaging

Your flyer design should make it easy for your targets to understand what your flyer is promoting at just a glance. Make sure the messaging is clear and that people understand exactly what it is you want them to do. Include all the vital information such as the date and time of an event but avoid repeating information over and over or your flyer design will lose its appeal.

3.  Poor Quality Images

Any images you include in your flyer should add to the design appeal. Make sure you use images or graphics that help enhance your promotion and messaging. Don’t include imagery that is irrelevant to your promotion as it can confuse your audience. You should also avoid using poor quality images or stretch low resolution pictures as it can send the wrong message to your targets.

4. USING ALL UPPER CASE!

Nobody likes to be yelled at and the same is true of your flyer design. Using all capital letter in your flyer design gives the appearance of screaming at anyone who picks up your flyer. The same can be said when overusing exclamation marks. By all means use upper case and exclamation marks to help emphasise information you don’t want people to miss out on – but be selective in their use.

Finally, don’t forget to check for typos and proofread your flyer design thoroughly before it goes to print.
