brochure mainYou’ve probably picked up a thousand brochures in your lifetime, without giving much thought to how you would design a brochure. It’s one of those things that you don’t really think about until it’s your turn to get in the driver’s seat.

There are lots of great design templates out there for you to use, but the truth is that a great brochure design starts way before you add anything to a template.

Here is our brochure checklist to help you get started.

6 Tips on how best to design a brochure for greatest impact

Know Your Objective

Before you’ve written a single word you need to be clear about what you hope to achieve with your brochure. Take some time to think about your marketing goals and make sure you have a clear objective for the project before you begin.

Brainstorm

Now that you know what you want to achieve, you can start thinking about how to get there. Don’t censor yourself – just get every idea, no matter how silly, out onto the page. Afterwards, take some time to storyboard your ideas and see what fits.

Shift Your Perspective

Make sure you always consider your audience. Who will be reading the brochure? What information will they need or want? Always design for the person reading the brochure – and not for yourself.

Write Great Copy

Having great copy for your brochure is crucial. Don’t ever get so caught up in the photos, colours and fonts that you forget to focus on the words. Write concise sentences, stay on point and keep it as simple as possible.

Get Quality Pictures

Don’t skimp on photo quality. If you can afford it, hire a professional photographer to get some shots of your products or team, if you can’t, there are plenty of stock photos you can use – just try to steer clear of images that LOOK like stock photos.

Don’t Overdo It!

You want to get noticed, just make sure it’s for the right reasons. Stick to a simple brochure design, don’t use more than two or three fonts in your design and stay well clear of clashing colours. You want the reader to remember the message – not the headache your brochure gave them!
